The University of Rochester Computer Science (URCS) logo highlights each of the Department's main research thrusts while maintaining a person-oriented focus. The tape look symbolizes a Turing machine and theoretical computer science. The 1s and 0s represent the nuts and bolts of systems research. The cutaway of the human illustrates the quest to unlock the computational nature of human-level intelligence. The close coupling of these metaphors in the graphic denotes the interdependence and collaboration of the theory, systems and artificial intelligence research groups within the University of Rochester Computer Science Department. The logo was created by Brandon Sanders from a scan of Da Vinci's Mona Lisa. |
