A Universal Framework for Underspecified Semantic Representation
We present a representation that brings the most commonly studied formalisms for scope-underspecified semantics together under a uniform framework. Previous attempts to unify underspecification formalisms suffered from either limited expressivity or intractability. We resolve this open problem with a formalism that transcends the limited expressivity of the previous formalisms (including our own) and yet remains tractable. We give polynomial-time algorithms for satisfiability and enumeration of our formalism.
