Using VerbNet to Capture Verb Entailments in Epilog
The overall goal of this project is to generate axioms in episodic logic (Epilog) that capture common entailments of English verbs. To do this, we are examining VerbNet's verb clustering system, and seeing how it can be applied to give similar axioms to verbs with similar properties. We are also developing a lexicon of primitive concepts, like "move" or "know" or "hold", which we use in the entailments. VerbNet is also helpful in creating this lexicon. The end goal of this whole process is a set of axioms that can be used in Epilog to make inferences about the meaning of sentences, in terms of the primitives we've defined. This talk gives a summary of the work completed so far, and a view of where we hope to go in the future.
