A:Yes. You should receive an email message if you are approaching your quota. If your disk quota is exceeded you may not be able to login and will have to report the problem to receive assistance. Clearing your browser cache, removing core dump files, and emptying your trash folder regularly can help keep your disk usage down.
A:There are a number of reasons this may happen. If you are not a declared major you will not have access to the majors lab. If you have recently lost your card and received a replacement card the new card will need to be registered for it to work. If you do not have access to a resource or lab that you think you should have access to please seek assistance from Marty Guenther.
A:If you find broken or malfunctioning equipment in the lab you should report it via email to labstaff @ cs.rochester.edu
A:Students get account access when they take a CSC course >172 that has programming as part of the course, or when they become officially declared majors. If they are taking CSC 172 or below, they use campus IT computers.
To get an account, they need to be authorized by their instructor to be eligible and then they come to Marty Guenther to sign up for it. See Marty in CSB 735 if you are unsure about your eligibility.
A:No. There is no undergraduate wireless network. You may be able to use the University UR_Connected wireless network however. Here is a link to University IT instructions:
http://www.rochester.edu/it/wireless/
A: Eligibility is based on active current enrollment in UR computer science courses. In general anyone that has a UR computer science shell account (and therefore an @cs.rochester.edu email address) can register by simply submitting the request form:
http://www.cs.rochester.edu/msdn/Download_registration.html
If you are actively taking entry level UR CS courses and do not yet have a CS shell account (and email address) you must request that your Faculty instructor provide verification that you are enrolled in a qualifying course. The Instructor need only send an email to msdnaa @ cs.rochester.edu with the following information:
- Student's Name
- Student's rochester.edu Email address
- Qualifying Course the student is taking
Non CS department members are not eligible.
A: You need to have your ID card encoded for access. If you believe you should have access report the trouble to Marty Guenther.
A:All of our workstations currently run Fedora Linux. Here is a link explaining some basic Linux command line commands:
http://mally.stanford.edu/~sr/computing/basic-unix.html
Surely google would turn up many references. If you know the name of a command but want to know how to use it you can use 'man' to pull up the man page (manual page).
Example: man ls
This will display the manual page for the 'ls' command
