well I installed ubuntu 8.04.1 desktop version and am trying right from the morning to connect to the net but its no use. my modem id a asdl model and I think it does not store the password and username as I have to initiate a connection everytime. I was suggested to use the pppoe command but it didnt work as such. I have used the ppp config command and followed the steps as instructed in one of the websites ubuntu geek. it is not working as well. whenever I use the pon command it fails and yes I use the username after pon command. I downloaded the scanModem and had a scan but it failed to identify the modem, the details I cannot put because firstly I didnot understand and secondly because windows xp cannot read it. I tried almost everything but finally failed. honestly I am not a software developer or something but dared to use linux. I really hope I get a bit of a help. p. s. I tried to do it from the app too but first a new connection cannot be created and secondly whenever I close the networking window the check against the connection against phone option gets unchecked automatically. theres one more problem I tried to install gnome ppp by giving the command sudo apt – get install gnome – ppp but the system replied that it failed to find such a file. so anyone please tell me what to do next. anyway I am tired from restarting my pc to jump from ubuntu to windows and forth.
