On a related note, there is another program called dviconcat, which along with dviselect is in the Debian package dviutils. As the name suggests, it combines individual DVI files into a single one. It is a great time saver some times. Both can be found on CTAN.

dviselect: Extract pages from DVI files

Current installed version: n/a

My current version: n/a

This is an ancient program that we have had for years (the manpage attributes it to Chris Torek, University of Maryland). I have no idea how long we'll be able to keep it running, but it can be very handy (although personally I use pdflatex these days and avoid DVI files).

See SoftwareFromGeorge for details about how to use this software.
