Things to do when you get here

This page is meant to be a comprehensive list of all the little things that first year students need to do when they arrive in order to get organized and to become a part of the community. It is broken down into general things that all students should do, as well as things that are specific to each area. Some of these will be done for you automatically, but some will not, so it's your responsibility to make sure everything gets done. This page should help you do that.

  • The lounge committee manages a small not-for-profit snack bar in the grad lounge, for the convenience of the department. To get an account on the computer so that you can make purchases on credit, contact Matt Post. Bills are sent out on the 15th and nth days of each month.

AI students

  • CLS (Center for Language Sciences) is an inter-departmental group including researchers from Computer Science, Linguistics, Brain & Cognitive Sciences, Psychology, Philosophy, and others. As an AI researcher, you'll want to get on the CLS all email list to make sure you receive talk announcements and other information. To do this, email Kathy Korser (kcorser@bcs.rochester.edu).
  • Big Picture is the weekly talk given by and for AI researchers. Its low-volume talk announcement list is managed by majordomo. Instructions for subscribing can be found on the Big Picture seminar page.
