Research and Work Experience
Research Assistant, Computer Science, University of Rochester [09/2007
- Present]
Advisor: Prof. Lenhart Schubert
- Conducted an extensive
survey
on externally motivated and internally motivated planners
- Designing and
developing a self-aware and opportunistic intelligent agent capable of
reasoning and planning
- Devising and
performing experiments to demonstrate how self-awareness, self-motivation,
and opportunistic choices benefit the agent
- Investigating knowledge-
and suggestion-driven behavior in dialogue and in situations involving
dialogue and other actions (e.g., problem-solving, simulated or physical
actions)
Independent Research Project (Inductive Logic Programming), Simon Fraser
University [Summer 2005]
- Extracted and
identified attributes of adults earning over $50,000 US a year from the US
Census data by casting the query as an ILP problem
- Evaluated three ILP
systems on the data and presented a report on our findings, experiment
methodologies, and the strengths and weaknesses of each system
Independent Research Project (Formal Verification), Simon Fraser
University [Spring 2005]
- Conducted experiments
for model checking abstract state machines (ASMs)
with answer set programming
- Modeled variants of
the alternating bit network protocol in ASMs and
formulated correctness properties in temporal logic; manually translated
the ASMs and properties into logic programs
- Compared the answer
set solutions to the logic programs with the model checking output on the
corresponding symbolic model verifier code
Independent Research Project (Knowledge Representation), Simon Fraser
University [Spring 2005]
- Implemented a top-down
interpreter for the definite clause language handling constants, atoms,
variables, abductive reasoning, integrity
constraints, and the closed world assumption
- Produced Java
documentation, a user manual, and a technical report for the interpreter
Research Assistant, Computing Science, Simon Fraser
University [05/2004 -
12/2004]
Advisor: Prof. James Delgrande
- Implemented a belief change system for belief revision,
contraction, and merging
- Designed and performed experiments to evaluate the system against
a comparable solver
- Co-wrote the user manual and maintained the
Web page
Software Developer, Strydent
Software, Vancouver, Canada [01/2002 - 08/2002]
- Helped design, develop, and debug versions 1.0
and 1.1 of the commercial software InkSaver
- Co-wrote the coding conventions guide for the
research and development department
- Performed quality assurance and testing
