Since these trips I've learned three tricks
  that makes it easier to tow a canoe:
  
  1. Weight balance: have sligtly more weight in the back.
  
  2. Attach the tow line low on the canoe. One way of doing this is
  to tie a line  to tha front sear and around the hull, then attach the
  tow line to the bottom of this.
  
  3. If rain or rough weather is possible a canoe canvas cover is 
  helpful. Emptying a waterfilled canoe in rough weather is not
  an easy task.
