Read the first three sections of Allen & Ferguson plus the beginning of section 4 up to the first example (ends page 27). Explore whether this logic is adequate to capture the behaviors addressed in the Copley paper we discussed last week. Specifically,
1. the notion of situation is central to Copley's semantics, whereas the notion of time interval is central to Allen's logic. How are these related, or are they?
2. explore the idea that Copley et al "forces" correspond to a generalized notion of Allen et al's "actions". Explore how you might encode the phenomena described in Chapter 4 of Copley, plus section 5.2 (the progressive). State what generalizations you need to make to get this to work, or describe why certain cases simply can't be captured in the Allen et al formalism.
