Call for Papers: IJCAI 2009 Workshop on Intelligent Systems for Assisted Cognition July 12, 2009, Pasadena, CA, USA http://www.assistedcognition.org There is an emerging field of interdisciplinary research on devices and environments designed to help people with cognitive disabilities due to aging, disease, or accident live with greater independence, safety, and community integration. Researchers are creating systems that use wearable or environmental sensors together with machine learning to infer a user's context and cognitive state in order to provide timely and non-obstrusive help for tasks such as activities of daily living, navigation, and emotional self-regulation. This workshop will bring together researchers in AI who traditionally attend IJCAI with researchers from the pervasive computing, human-computer interaction, universal access, and medical communities. Thanks to the support of our sponsors, the workshop will provide cash awards to distinguished submissions. We welcome submissions on both applied and theoretical work on topics such as: * Methods and systems for recognizing activities of daily living * Ways to detect confusion and other user errors * Systems for detecting mood disturbances * Strategies for prompting and user interaction * Evaluations of particular systems in real world settings Submitted papers should be prepared using IJCAI format styles and should be between 4 and 8 pages in length. The deadline for submission is March 6, 2009, and authors will be notified by April 17. A link to the paper submission system will appear at http://www.assistedcognition.org by March 1. Program and Awards The workshop will present: * Talks based on submitted papers * Posters based on submitted papers * Reports from winners of the 2007 Microsoft Research grants competition on Intelligent Systems for Assisted Cognition * Invited talks from distinguished researchers and practitioners Three new submissions to the workshops will be chosen for Distinguished Contribution Awards of $2,500 each. The winners of the awards will be announced at the workshop. Program Committee Please email questions about the workshop to pc@assistedcognition.org, rather than to individual committee members.
