Now I’m a vegetarian.  I became one for religious reasons: to move myself down the food chain.  My diet has a smaller impact than that of the average American, but still more than the planet can handle.  My car is up there in the corner, and my wife’s is down at the left.  They’re both hybrids, and they average about 40 miles per gallon.  That’s about twice the typical American car, so we’re only destroying the planet half as fast.  I ride my bike to work whenever I can, but I traveled by plane about 30,000 miles last year.  That’s something like 10 tons of CO2 just to move me around the planet.
