From everything you hear, a healthy business or economy is defined to be one that is growing.  Most economists seem to favor growth in the neighborhood of 2–3 percent.  So what happens if you compound 3% over the course of 200 years?  You get a 370-fold increase!  (And a lot more after that.)  So what, exactly, do we want 370 times as much of?  Cars?  Jobs?  Toasters?  Cell phones and iPods?  We have to figure out how to run an economy that does not grow at all
