For those of you who aren’t familiar with it, Unitarian Universalism is a liberal religion that grew out of the Protestant tradition.  Its theological roots go back to the beginnings of the Christian Church, but it takes inspiration from many different sources (that’s what “syncretic” means).  Organizationally, it goes back about 240 years in this part of the world.  The two historic arms of the movement got together in 1961, which is when we coined that terrible long name.  There are a little over 1,000 UU congregations in America today, with about a quarter million members.
