Morceli: Training Rumors

The problem with most elite athletes is that it is very difficult, if not impossible, to learn about their training. Fortunately, in Morceli's case, some information has been made available by coaches, other athletes, etc.

While at Riverside CC, under the coaching of Ted Banks, Morceli's training week looked something like this:

  S: 60-75 minutes at 6:30
M: one hour hard on road
T: easy how easy ? "as slow as 10 mpm"
  W: Intervals 10-12x400@ 55
T: easy how easy ? "as slow as 10 mpm"
  F: fartlek strides
  S:easy

Other sources indicate that in the months leading up to the summer season, Morceli likes to do fartlek - mainly large quantities of 2min on/2 min off. In addition he also lifts two times a week, both upper and lower body.

Other types of workouts are standard repeats of 400s; repeat 200's with decreasing rest while increasing speed...
