After some thought, I have decided to make my lecture notes publically
available. My concern in doing this is that they are meant primarily for
me to lecture from, not for students to read.
I don't spell everything out clearly.
I include notes to myself.
I sometimes include material that I don't get around to talking about.
I sometimes talk about things that aren't in the notes.
I sometimes make mistakes in the notes that I correct on the fly in class.
At the same time
The text for this course isn't always what I wish it was.
Some of you can't help being absent from time to time.
The notes emphasize the material that is likely to be on the exams.
If you have good notes already you may be able to pay better attention
in class.
Therefore, PLEASE treat the notes as if they came with a typical free
software "unlicense":
This stuff is made available in the hope that somebody will find it
useful. No guarantee is made, however, that it is good for anything
in particular. Use at your own risk.

You may find notes here for material that we haven't covered yet.
Feel free to read ahead, but BE WARNED:
anything ahead of the current lecture is old -- from the last time
I taught the course -- and subject to change. If you want to be
sure, check the date the file was last modified (use ls -l). If it
hasn't been modified since the beginning of the semester, it's old.

Hint for studying for exams:
I will be basing the exams primarily on my lecture notes, but
I expect you to read the text, too -- use the lecture notes
as a subject guide, and use the texts to fill in things that
are unclear. I reserve the right to ask questions about things
that are in the assigned sections of the text, but which I did
not mention in class.
