Applications of WT Analysis

In this section we apply WT analysis to three applications: a triangular solver, narrow-band radar tracking, and an econometrics model (Nagurney). The triangular solver illustrates the value of WT analysis for diagnosis of waiting time problems and for quantifying the relative contribution of different sources of waiting time to parallel overhead. The radar application illustrates how WT analysis can be used to generate a model of execution time, which can be used to resolve an important performance tradeoff, the optimal allocation of processors to tasks. The Nagurney application also illustrates how to use WT analysis to generate a performance model, but it is a more complicated example that involves a different performance tradeoff (communication vs. replicated computation).
