Pulsed Jets

When stars are born they eject narrow high speed beams of gas into space. These jet can stream away from the star with speed of more than 300 miles a second! Some of the matter falling into a black hole can also be redirected into a jet. These jets can have speeds that are 99% of the speed of light.

If the jet source is changing then the beam of gas flowing away from it will be unsteady. In many cases it appears that the jet source is turning on and off like a pulsating water sprinkler.
