Steady JetsWhen stars are born they eject narrow high speed beams of gas into space. These jet can stream away from the star with speed of more than 300 miles a second! Some of the matter falling into a black hole can also be redirected into a jet. These jets can have speeds that are 99% of the speed of light. If the jet source is constant then the beam of gas flowing away from it will be steady like a continious stream of water from a garden hose.
