First I would like to thank all my professors from whom I got to learn so much. I would like to thank my parents without whose support and words of wisdom, I wouldn't be here. It has been an enriching academic experience where I had the opportunity to connect, learn from, mentor, and work with extremely intelligent and capable people. Shout out to the close friends I made - Raj, Arsal, Danish, Ashwin, Vipul, and Chandrashekhar. Looking ahead, I plan to work as a software engineer and move into a senior role in the upcoming years. I wish to involve myself in mentoring software engineers inside and outside of my job. If your eyes have wandered all the way down here, I leave you with one of my quotes, one that has grown a lot on me over the time I have been at UR. "An inherited strength of will. One's dreams. The ebb and flow of the ages. As long as people hunger for freedom these things will exist." Kanpai!

Although my time at the University of Rochester has been brief, it has been significant. As a graduate student in Computer Science, I've learned so much from brilliant minds and have been exposed to a ton of different perspectives and ideas. I've grown a lot during my time here, both professionally and personally. Shoutout to all the amazing professors, advisors, and friends who have supported me along the way. I couldn't have done it without you all!

During my time at the University of Rochester, I have been fortunate to create lasting memories that I will cherish forever. Among these, spending valuable time with friends has been an essential part of my university experience. Together, we have bonded over shared interests and supported each other in our academic and personal growth. I will never forget the magical moments when we watched snowflakes gently falling from the sky, transforming the campus into a winter wonderland. On clear nights, we marveled at the stars shining brightly above us, instilling in us a sense of wonder and limitless possibility. As I walked the campus grounds, enveloped in sunshine, I felt invigorated and inspired to pursue my dreams. Amidst the hustle and bustle of university life, I learned to pause and listen to my inner voice. This self-awareness has given me the strength to face challenges head-on and embrace new opportunities with confidence. These precious memories at UR have not only enriched my life but also shaped the person I am today. I will forever be grateful for the experiences and connections I've made during my time at the University of Rochester.

During his studies at the University of Rochester, Fanyang Meng has been holding himself to the highest standards, progressing, learning, and perfecting his knowledge in all aspects of computer science, while also finding his preferred job as a full stack developer in advance of graduation. In the future, Fanyang will work as a Full Site Developer at Odoo Buffalo Office.

I plan to explore the applications of Deep Learning Neural Networks and other concepts of Artificial Intelligence in the Technology and Finance sectors. As I have learned more about Computer Science, I have noticed quite a bit about many of the products people use on a regular basis, and am excited to apply this knowledge in a professional environment.

Reflecting on my time at University of Rochester, I must admit I felt a bit anxious before arriving. Moving 8000 miles away from home can be a daunting prospect for anyone. However, I was fortunate to meet several individuals who were in the same situation as me and proved to be immensely helpful during my transition. Ashwin, Arsal, Chandrashekhar, Danish, Shreyan, Saksham, Vipul, and Yashu, all provided me with valuable support and guidance, and I am grateful to have had them as part of my journey. That said, I must also thank me for believing in me. I want to thank me for doing all this hard work. I want to thank me for never quitting and always moving forward.

Before coming to the United States, I only knew 3 things about Rochester - heavy snow, the genesse river, and the garbage plate (which I still haven't tried). But I was lucky to have been part of 5469, a mash-up of 549 and 569 Whipple park apartments, where I learnt everything from my friends - Raj, Danish, Shreyan and Arsal. We went from struggling to make rice to discussing plans of opening up our own restaurant. My academic journey at the University of Rochester was fruitful and engaging. I thoroughly enjoyed coding game-playing AI in Professor Adam Purtee's class and being subsumed by countless research papers in Professor Jiebo Luo's class. Moreover, I have been a teaching assistant in Simon school of business and the lead researcher as part of 4 research assistantships. I secured 20,000 USD as seed funding by GIDS for a research project on music generation. Professor Jiebo Luo and his VIStA lab have been instrumental in developing my area of specialization. Over the summer of 2022, I interned in Adobe as a Machine Learning Intern and worked on video depth estimation. I continued to intern through the fall semester and have since converted to a full-time position at Adobe. I will join Adobe in June 2023 as a Machine Learning Engineer and work in the Generative AI team of Adobe Sensei. I am grateful for my decision in choosing to tailor my SOP to Professor Luo's lab, since that has made me the person that I am today.

Upon graduating, my plan is to pursue a career in SDE backend development. I have always been fascinated by the way software and hardware interact to create seamless experiences for users. As a student, I have developed a strong foundation in programming languages like Java, Python, and SQL, as well as a solid understanding of computer networks and operating systems. I believe that working in SDE backend development will allow me to utilize these skills and knowledge to create efficient and reliable software systems that meet the needs of end-users. Specifically, I hope to work on projects that involve designing and implementing APIs, building scalable and high-performance systems, and optimizing databases for maximum efficiency. I am confident that my education and experience have prepared me well for a career in SDE backend development. I am excited to apply my skills and knowledge to create innovative solutions that meet the needs of businesses and users alike.
