Any student who is willing to further study and implement any relavanet topic on database system is recouraged to survey a list of papers and implement at least one of those preferably with some improvement. You can form teams. A team must not have more than four (4) members.
By February 14, 2018, you need to form a team, decide a topic you are interested in and give a one-page overview of what you want to work on. Please
cite at least three sources you are considering.
We will not allow two teams to work on the exact same topic; so, reserve your topic on the google sheet as early as possible.
Your final submission would be a paper on the topic and an accompanying poster (both in pdf format). Graduate TAs and I will grade your submissions. We will also provide you feedback from peers, and give bonus points to top 3 submissions (based on both the report and the poster).
The paper should be
no longer than 12 pages (excluding references) and should be formatted with the same rules as
VLDB papers (templates for submissions).
You can use either Latex or Microsoft Word for writing your report. Your report should include the abstract and references to the papers. The poster should be comprehensive and complement the report.
The recommended poster dimensions are
48 in tall x 36 in wide (121 cm tall x 91.5 cm wide) (Portrait orientation) The font type should be easily legible.
The poster should include the paper title, the full name of the authors. The poster should contain the key points of the paper, including the scientific goal, the problem being solved to reach that goal, the solution approach, and methodology. Figure legends are essential and should be short but informative.
