Student Research CompetitionFor the first time this year, SOSP will be participating in the ACM Student Research Competition program. Generous underwriting of the SRC program by Microsoft Research will fund approximately 45% of this year's SOSP student scholarships. Students may enter the SOSP Student Research Competition by submitting to the poster session. Accepted posters will be available for viewing during the conference, and their authors will have opportunity to explain their work as they interact with other conference attendees during the scheduled session on Monday afternoon. Four semi-finalists will be selected from among the posters to make a more formal ten-minute presentation to the conference audience. In addition, accepted conference papers that are principally the work of students may be entered in the competition. Authors will be contacted by the program committee with details about certifying their eligibility. Winners of the SOSP Student Research Competition will be announced at the SIGOPS business meeting Tuesday evening. The top graduate and top undergraduate will advance to competion in the SRC Grand Finals. Please note that all competing students must be members of the ACM. The ACM SRC web site provides additional information about the competion and requirements for participation. Students who submit an initial version of their poster entry or certify their paper to the competition before 29 August (extended deadline 10 September) may also apply (separately) for a scholarship to offset part of the cost of attending the conference.
