Setting up Emacs to use R

R is a great program for doing statistics. Even better is that you can use it from within emacs. In two simple steps:

  • In your ~/.emacs file, add the lines
(add-to-list 'load-path "/usr/grads/share/emacs/site-lisp/ess/" t)
(require 'ess-site)
  • Type M-x R to start R

To see a nice demo, you can type demo(graphics) and demo(image).
