Installing SBCL for Running TRIPS on an Intel Mac

These are instructions for installing SBCL for Intel Macs. Currently SBCL is the only free Lisp that can run TRIPS on this platform. Note that you need a special experimental version of SBCL that supports threads in order to run TRIPS. GeorgeFerguson has built a distribution with the feature turned on.

  • Unpack the file in a place of your choosing (there is a README file in there, but its instructions are for installing the non threaded version (under 1.0.2))

  • the rest of this must be done with root privileges (sudo -s)

  • copy the resulting sbcl directory to /usr/local/sw/sbcl

  • cd /usr/local/sw/sbcl

  • rm latest

  • ln -s 1.0.2-threads latest

  • cd /usr/local/bin

  • ln -s ../sw/sbcl/latest/bin/sbcl

  • cd ../lib

  • ln -s ../sw/sbcl/latest/lib/sbcl

  • cd ../man/man1

  • ln -s ../sw/sbcl/latest/share/man/man1/sbcl.1
