ARGOT

ARGOT was the University of Rochester Computer Science department's first attempt to explore the mechanics of dialogue. Its focus was an in-depth examination of the direct and indirect intentions resulting from individual utterances, and how to understand them automatically.

Here you can see one of our alumni, Alan Frisch, wearing the ARGOT T-shirt. It depicts a representation of the intentions resulting from the utterance "Could you mount a magtape for me?". In the background is our sign for TRAINS, the project that formed our later exploration of dialogue.
