As a sophomore student in 2022, Jack Cashman was selected as a Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) student in Professor Chen Ding’s research group after excelling in the course CSC 252 Computer Organization, where he performed particularly well on the parallel matrix multiplication assignment. In his junior year, Jack joined the REU site program at the University of Utah. Building on the knowledge and experience gained during both summers, he completed an undergraduate thesis titled Evaluating Cache Effects of SpMV Reordering. On April 20, Jack successfully defended his thesis before a committee comprising Professors Chen Ding, Yuhao Zhu, and Yanan Guo, who awarded him High Honors for his work.

As further recognition of his accomplishments, Jack was recently awarded the prestigious Graduate Research Fellowship Program (NSF GRFP) by the National Science Foundation. Following his graduation, Jack will join the PhD program in the Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) department at Purdue University. Congratulations to Jack on his outstanding achievements and best wishes for his future endeavors!
